I would like to sincerely thank Finland Eye Center for their excellent service, care, and professionalism throughout my experience. A special thank you to Dr. Saleh Al Jalad, who was absolutely amazing. He was very professional, reassuring, and took the time to clearly explain my condition and the procedure. Alhamdulillah, everything went smoothly and successfully, and I truly appreciate his effort and care. I would also like to thank the entire medical and administrative team for their kindness and support. It was a great experience, and I highly recommend Finland Eye Center. Thank you for everything, and I wish the entire team continued success.

Dear Finland Eye Center Muscat Team, I wanted to provide some initial feedback following my recent cataract surgeries at your center in August. I underwent surgery on my right eye on 17 August, followed by my left eye later that month, with PureSee intraocular lenses implanted in both eyes. As a military helicopter pilot, my choice of lens was particularly important. I was keen not only to restore clear vision across distances, but above all to keep night-time phenomena such as glare, haloing and light scatter to an absolute minimum, given the demands of low-level flying with night vision goggles. Firstly, the care and procedural standards at the Eye Centre are exceptional and I have nothing but high praise for Dr Saleh and all the staff. One month on, I am absolutely delighted with the outcome. My vision across near, intermediate and far distances has improved beyond compare. For both day and night vision, I do not require glasses. Most significantly for my work, the haloing I had experienced with cataracts has now been resolved completely and I am experiencing only very minimal light scatter. This is extremely encouraging given the visual demands of aviation. At this relatively early stage, my impression is that the PureSee lens is wholly compatible with aviation operations in every environment. Kindest Regards Mark Wookey

Frequently AskedQuestions

Answers to common questions about eye conditions, treatments and visiting our clinics.

Browse all answers on our FAQ page, or read about cataract, glaucoma, retina and LASIK treatment.

What eye conditions does Finland Eye Center treat?

Finland Eye Center treats most common eye conditions: cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and other retinal disease, keratoconus and corneal disease, children's eye problems including lazy eye and squint, eyelid conditions, and dry eye. It also offers laser vision correction (LASIK, PRK and CLEAR), implantable lenses (ICL) and contact lens fitting. Each branch page lists the services available at that clinic.

Where are Finland Eye Center's clinics?

There are four clinics: Muscat: Qurum Garden Building, First Floor, 2237 Way, +968 2456 4488; Sohar: Al Hambar Street, Near Sohar Hospital, +968 2684 6662; Salalah: New Salalah, 23rd July Street, +968 2329 8515; Nizwa: Firq Area, Near Nizwa Hospital, +968 2543 3500. Consultations, eye examinations and follow-up are available at all four. Surgery and laser vision correction are done at the Muscat (Qurum), Sohar and Salalah clinics; Nizwa patients who need them are booked at one of these three. Opening hours are shown on each branch page.

When is the right time for cataract surgery?

Cataract surgery is usually recommended when a cataract starts to affect daily tasks such as reading, driving or recognising faces. There is no upper age limit and no need to wait for the cataract to "ripen". Your eye doctor will examine the eye, check for other conditions and discuss which lens implant suits your needs.

How is glaucoma treated?

Glaucoma treatment lowers the pressure inside the eye to protect the optic nerve. Most patients start with eye drops or a laser treatment called SLT. If the pressure stays too high, surgery such as trabeculectomy may be recommended. Damage already caused by glaucoma cannot be reversed, so regular check-ups matter, especially over 40 or with a family history.

How often should people with diabetes have their eyes checked?

Most people with diabetes should have a retinal examination with dilating drops at least once a year, or as often as their eye doctor advises. Diabetic retinopathy often causes no symptoms in its early stages. When it is found early, treatment such as laser or injections into the eye can reduce the risk of serious vision loss.

When should a child have an eye examination?

Children's vision should be checked in infancy and again before starting school. See an eye doctor sooner if you notice a squint, a white reflection in the pupil, frequent eye rubbing or squinting, or if your child holds things very close. Lazy eye (amblyopia) responds best to treatment in early childhood, so early checks matter.

Who is suitable for laser vision correction?

Generally adults aged 18 or over whose prescription has been stable for at least a year and whose eyes are otherwise healthy, with corneas thick and regular enough for treatment. Options include LASIK, PRK and CLEAR; when laser is not suitable, an implantable lens (ICL) may be. A full assessment with corneal mapping decides which option, if any, is right for you.

Does Finland Eye Center accept health insurance?

Yes. Finland Eye Center works with these health insurers: NEXtCARE, Liva, OQIC, MetLife, GIG Gulf and AXA, and QPay can be used to pay for any service. Coverage depends on your policy and the treatment: medically necessary care such as cataract surgery is more often covered than elective laser vision correction. The clinic can check your approval before treatment.
