CLEAR Laser Vision Correction

What is CLEAR?

CLEAR, by Ziemer, is a lenticule extraction form of laser vision correction. Unlike LASIK, which creates a corneal flap, CLEAR uses only a small 2-4mm opening. The procedure removes a small lens-shaped piece of tissue from within the cornea through this small incision to correct your vision.

How does CLEAR work?

Numbing Drops: We apply anesthetic drops to ensure you are completely comfortable. You will be awake but feel no pain.

Lenticule Creation: The femtosecond laser creates a tiny lens-shaped piece of tissue within your cornea in about 25 seconds.

Small Incision: A tiny 2-4mm opening is made, preserving corneal structure and nerve function.

Lenticule Removal: Your surgeon gently removes the lenticule through the small opening. The incision self-seals without stitches.

Instant Results: The entire procedure takes about 10 minutes per eye. Most patients see clearly within 24 hours.

Prescription Range: Myopia -1.00 to -10.00 diopters, Astigmatism up to -5.00 diopters, Stable prescription for 1+ year, Adequate corneal thickness. Note: Currently not available for hyperopia (farsightedness).

Recovery after CLEAR

First 24 Hours: Mild blurriness initially, some light sensitivity, minimal discomfort, vision improves rapidly. First Week: Return to work in 1-2 days, continue using eye drops, avoid rubbing eyes, follow-up appointments. Month 1-3: Vision continues to sharpen and stabilize, results vary from person to person.

Risks and considerations

Like any surgery, CLEAR has risks, which your surgeon explains. Temporary side effects include mild dry eye, light sensitivity, and minor visual fluctuations. Because no flap is created, flap-related complications are impossible. Very rare risks include infection, undercorrection requiring enhancement, or temporary halos.
