What is PRK Streamlight?

How does PRK Streamlight work?

Epithelial Removal: After numbing drops, we gently remove the thin outer layer of your cornea using an alcohol solution or specialized brush. This takes only seconds; numbing drops keep you comfortable.

Laser Reshaping: The excimer laser precisely reshapes your cornea to correct your prescription. Advanced eye tracking ensures accurate treatment even if your eye moves slightly.

Protective Contact Lens: A bandage contact lens is placed on your eye to protect it and enhance comfort while the epithelium regenerates over 3-5 days.

Natural Healing: Your epithelium naturally regrows and smooths out. The bandage lens is removed after a few days, and vision continues to improve over the following weeks.

Recovery after PRK Streamlight

Days 1-3: Initial healing with some discomfort, light sensitivity, and tearing. Use prescribed drops and rest. Vision will be blurry. Days 4-5: Bandage contact lens is removed. Vision begins to clear as the epithelium finishes healing. Week 2-4: Vision continues to sharpen. Most patients achieve functional vision for work and daily activities. Month 3+: Vision stabilizes. Results vary from person to person.

Risks and considerations

Like any surgery, PRK Streamlight has risks, which your surgeon explains. Temporary discomfort during the first few days is normal. Vision takes longer to stabilize compared to LASIK (3-4 weeks vs. 24 hours). Very rare risks include infection, corneal haze, or undercorrection requiring enhancement.
